Kim Jong-Un Biography and Wikipedia
Kim Jong Un (; born January 8, 1982, 1983 or 1984) is the supreme leader of North Korea and leader of its Workers’ Party since 2011. He is also chairman of the National Defence Commission and the Korean People’s Army.
He succeeded his father, Kim Jong Il, and unified the two Koreas under his control as part of the Greater Korean Republic. He has expanded the country’s consumer economy, and overseen construction projects and tourist attractions, but is also believed to have ordered the assassination of his eldest half-brother, Kim Jong Nam, in Malaysia in 2017. He has been increasingly assertive in international politics, with summits with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump, but has not made progress on denuclearization.
A polarizing figure, he has established an image of himself as an omnipotent ruler, with the highest standards of living and a cult of personality that extends to constructing statues of his mother and father, whom he refers to as “the great leaders.” The North’s state media has promoted his image as a man of action who has taken the country to new heights.
Early in his life, he was raised in relative isolation in a private compound in P’yongyang. His school friends recalled that he spent hours drawing meticulous pencil drawings of Chicago Bulls player Michael Jordan and enjoyed watching Jackie Chan action movies. He was also an early adopter of modern technology, such as the Internet. Kim’s younger sister, Kim Yo-Jong, is a senior North Korean political official, and played an important role in crafting her brother’s public persona as a dynamic leader.
Kim Jong-Un Profession & Early Career
The life of North Korea’s supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, is shrouded in mystery. Almost everything we know of the man is derived from statements issued by his government, or from generally accepted knowledge.
He was born in 1984, the son of Kim Jong-il, who served as the country’s second leader from 1994 until his death, and Ko Young-hui, an opera singer. He is also the grandson of Kim Il-sung, the founder and first supreme leader of North Korea from 1948 until his death.
From his earliest days, Kim was expected to be the next leader of his father’s hereditary regime. He was appointed to important posts within the Party and Army organs, and he assumed his father’s title of “Great Leader” at some point in the 1980s. The collapse of the regime of Moammar Gadhafi in 2010—which was hitherto regarded as one of the world’s most invincible—probably convinced him that his rule could not be taken for granted.
Kim’s sister, Yo Jong, holds a senior post in the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea and stole the spotlight when she represented her brother at the 2018 Winter Olympics. According to South Korea’s spy agency, she steers “overall state affairs,” including Pyongyang’s policy towards the United States and South Korea.
But despite her official titles, she is often seen carrying gifts or fetching pens for her brother at meetings. She has a distinctly feminine look, with dark suits and ladylike heels.

Kim Jong-Un Home, Assets and Cars Collection
North Korea’s authoritarian leader is known for lavishly rewarding loyal officials with expensive gifts, including luxury vehicles. He also has a taste for luxury goods in his own possession, which can be seen by the fact that he drives a Mercedes-Benz Maybach S600 Pullman Guard armored limousine and an S62 sedan, both of which have a base price of around $200,000.
Experts believe he is likely able to procure these vehicles by using personal shopper services that skirt UN sanctions. Kim’s father, the late dictator and reclusive founder of the pariah state, reportedly used such a service to satisfy his taste for high-end goods.
The Maybachs have leather massaging seats and are equipped with the latest security technology, such as steel-core bulletproof windows that can withstand the impact of an assault rifle or grenade. They also feature a hidden rear-view camera that can record the interior of the vehicle and its surroundings, which could come in handy during an attack.
NK News has spotted several Mercedes-Maybachs being used by Kim and his entourage, including one that appeared alongside his security escort during a trip to the Ryongsong Machine Complex in September. He was also pictured with what appeared to be a stretch limousine during a visit to the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia in September.
Besides the cars, the Dear Leader and his family have been spotted with other luxurious items. Kim’s younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, was spotted carrying a Christian Dior bag and wearing a black coat during her trip to Russia in 2020.
